I just read an article this past week about Match.com, eHarmony and Sparks cross referencing users with the sex offender databases in an attempt to make online dating safer.

Have you ever worried about your safety or well-being when heading out to meet someone for the first time?
I have never met anyone at their home or had them come to my home. I have always met for coffee, drinks or dinner in very busy, public places. I do know people who have put themselves in some compromising positions which would have terrified me.
ReplyDeleteI believe that public places are the best spots to meet for the first and probably second and third dates with someone that you meet online. While I'm sure it's just as easy to meet a creep or stalker in the conventional ways as it is online, I think that it's imperative that women and men exercise good judgment and pay attention to gut instincts.
DeleteI know someone who let a guy pick her up from her home on the first date. They had never met in person. I told her she was crazy especially since she had a kid and now a stranger knows where she lives. She told me she felt like she knew the guy since they had emailed back and forth for three weeks...
ReplyDeleteWhen kids are involved, I think there's no such thing as "too safe"...
